Trouble

August 28th, 2009

Not only do these two get to hang out while their older brothers play football, they get to be in class together this year.  Watch out Ting Laoshi.

Long weekends

Later

June 10th, 2009

I’m leaving town for San Fran tomorrow at 7:00 am with my girl Ellen.

We have worked really hard at planning our trip.

Here is what we have nailed down:

  • Confirmed flights
  • Shuttle to hotel
  • Hotel

Oh and I have three books in my bag.  That should just about do it.

Half right most of the time

Like I said yesterday, KP gets about 90% of everything 50% correct.  I am not sure if he just isn’t listening, if he can’t hear or if he just doesn’t care.  I’m sure it is bits and pieces of both.  Regardless, when he get’s it wrong, it is always 100% funny.

The following is a conversation that took place when I was taking one of his friends home from a playdate.

Jack:  Hey, there’s our school.

KP:  Yeah.  Where are you going to school next year?

Jack:  I’m going to Mrs. Kalotski’s class.  Are you going there?

KP:  No, I’m going to Chin Chin Acadamy.

Jack:  What language will you be talking in?

KP:  Chin Chin.

Me:  Chinese!  You will be learning Chinese.

KP:  Oh yeah, Chinese.

Jack:  Will you only speak Chinese?

KP:  No, I will use this voice AND speak Chinese.

Just funny

The other day during a morning run, T-odd told us about the new tri top he purchased for the upcoming season.  Then he went on to tell us about his struggles gettting it on.

It got even more funny when he blogged about it and added photos.

Always surprising

April 6th, 2009

This past Saturday, our little running trio, had our first 20 mile training run.  T-odd is The Pace Guy with his super duper Garmin 405, it usually tells us we are not going fast enough and/or that our predetermined route is too f*&%)#& short.

And so, on this day, at mile 19 we knew we needed more.  When we got to what should have been the finish we still needed another 1/2 mile.  We decided to just keep going until the almighty Garmin hit 20.  Seriously, passing what you think should be your stopping point is painful, if you are in pain or not.

So for the next 1/2 mile I am asking “Are we done yet?”, “It’s gotta be close!”  “T-odd, seriously, are we there yet?”  Laura, per usual,  is quiet and stoic and most certainly not complaining.  So we continue, T-odd kept telling us we were close and calling out distances, which by this point I couldn’t even decifer.

We turned the corner and started running up a hill, I continue to complain and couldn’t believe we were not done yet.  T-odd is running about 3 feet ahead of Laura and I when he says, “Ok, that’s it…done…20!”

On his word, I stop.

Until Laura snaps and starts yelling…MARY, MARY…RUN, KEEP RUNNING, YOU HAVE TO RUN TO TODD!

And for the rest of the way to the car we laughed at the insanity in her voice and the fact that I really did want to stop 3 feet short but thanks to her, I didn’t.

Our own Red Tent

April 1st, 2009

This past week, our currently defunct Playgroup, a group of woman that had gotten together every Wednesday for seven solid years, is now reuniting monthly to read books, drink wine and discuss content, story lines and everything else that is going on in our lives.

This reunion has made me think a lot about all the woman that surround me in this life and how lucky I am to have them as confidants, friends, support staff, shoulders to cry on, wise minds to draw from, girlie girls to laugh with, psychiatrists to help nash things through with and just plain’ol hang out with.  I could go on and on.

Our new found book club has chosen it’s first three books (just in case we have some over achievers out there).  The first two books are: Sun Flower and the Secret Fan and The Red Tent.  These choices have made me think even more about woman and their relationships.  These are both books that talk about woman, their relationship with other woman and how they made their lives work together because they had to due to circumstance, timing and tradition.

We, woman of today, have come so far in every way, but there is still that need.  A need to be together, to connect, to work together, to work things out together, to have fun together.

So my ladies, this is to you…thank you…I love you…you make my life richer…I appreciate you and all you give and if we were stuck in a Red Tent together, I would be honored.

To Laura and anyone else who has never seen this skit

March 31st, 2009

Laura has had to suffer through my interpretation of this skit at least 15 times at 5:30 in the morning, while running AND never finds it funny.

Now you can see the real skit.

Thanks for sending it out Erika.  This way we can all do it together on Thursday!

The Cat Man

March 23rd, 2009

This is our friend Erik.

We have known him for a VERY long time.

He was over for dinner last week and while we were tipping back some wine and chatting, up pops Arthur to sit right next to him, just like this.

Arthur has no idea how close he is to freedom with this man.  If Erik had his druthers, he would steal our cats from us.

Even before we got Lucy, Erik never thought our cat ownership skills were ever really up to snuff and I know he has secret designs on how he is going to take them far away from their chaotic kitty cat hell hole or as I like to call it, our lovely home.

But just so you know Cat Man, you aren’t getting’em, know matter how much they love you up.
