Child #4

January 12th, 2009

I did not realize when we adopted this dog that I would have just as many stories, photos and as much money flying out of my pockets as I do with my kids.

This past Saturday at the neighborhood sledding party, Lucy just could not get out of the way of the old fashioned tobogan, the metal and wood variety.

So she got shaved down and all stitched up at the vet ER.  That pink cast/bandage makes her feel pretty.  The cone, not so much.

Tired after the trama

Resolutions

January 8th, 2009

I usually don’t do New Year’s resolutions, I’m not a believer in them.  If I don’t stick to them, that just makes me a failure at my own game, why would I do that?  Everyone knows I like to win, so setting myself up for failure is plain’ol silly.

Seeing that I have found myself sluggish, unmotivated and angry at the end of 08, I went hole (or whole) hog into resolution crazytown.

My 09 resolution list:

  • Only drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning (this one is going well)
  • No drive through coffee in the afternoon-good for the environment and myself (this too is going well so far, but just give it time)
  • Lift weights 3 times a week (I can’t believe this one is even on my list, I have been lifting since I was in college, even while pregnant and somehow it fell off the to do list in the past year, what the hell)
  • Go to Yoga class once a week (this is to help me find my calm center…wherever that is and NO I have not gone this week)
  • Be less angry (Yoga was suppose to help me with this, deep breathing too, but there are just moments where I find myself in a tail spin, gritting my teeth until my jaw hurts and wondering how to keep four kids that are spread out like a paint splatter and a dog all together while skating at the park in -7 below windchill with my toes and fingers tingling with pain from the cold, can you feel the anger?)
  • Only drink on the weekends (I made it Monday night, there is nothing more to say)
  • To JUDGE (this seems to be the only resolution that is really working for me, it even has its own sound affect when I do judge something, that of course comes after me saying very loudly JUDGEMENT 09!

So I am going to say this, I HATE resolutions, people who do resolutions are idiots (JUDGEMENT 09!), they never work, you always fail…hold on, I need to get my fourth cup of coffee.

How is that for an angry, over caffeinated, hateful, judgmental morning?  Off to the drive through Starbucks for utter success today, oh and I better put out my wine glass for tonight.

So not appropriate

Ok, if you did not see the over the top digital short on Saturday Night Live last Saturday, here it is…

I’m so nice I might just stab them

December 4th, 2008

Late last night I took Lucy for a walk around the neighborhood.  As I crested the hill I noticed a mini van that was parked on the street and someone had left all the internal lights on.

I stood there for a second thinking, should I go knock on the door and tell them their lights are on because every time we leave the mini van lights on it totally kills the battery.  No, that would be weird and dark night walker strange.  No, it’s a nice thing to do and I would want to know if it was my van. So I walked to the door.

I could tell from standing outside the house that these people were guests who were over for dinner and they were enjoying their time together.

Until I rang the door bell.

Then they all scattered to a back room and waited until I went away to creep back out of the dark where they hide.

Seriously? I so hope that sapped all the juice right out of their battery.

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Funny little day

November 19th, 2008

I started today with an email from Whitney that said, “Hope just informed me that PJ is allergic to the lead they have in the pencils at school. She demonstrated how PJ has to plug her nose while she does her school work.”

After I dropped KP off at school I had an over the phone interview for our Life Insurance.  After I answered their numerous questions that put me in the “Home Maker” category, I proceeded to tell her about the $7 a week I make teaching swimming lessons and then she asked, “So…what is your net worth.”  My response, a wicked laugh that shot straight through the phone and right to her inner ear then not so gently pierced her brain.

The final funny hit before lunch, at a little boutique.  I am looking for a cocktail dress and found one that was not exactly what I was looking for, but would certainly do the job and was reasonably priced to boot.  The only issue…I needed latex breast enhancements to go with it and they just so happen to cost more than the entire dress.

Oh, life is funny.

Why not drink during your free time

October 22nd, 2008

I’ve recently had the opportunity to help Surly Brewing Company throw their first Annual SurlyFest back in September.  It was so much fun I couldn’t help but go back for more.  Ok, the honest truth is that Omar (the owner) said I could come back as long as I kept the mouthing off to a minimum.

Regardless of all that, if you have some free time this Saturday stop on by the brewery for Darkness Day or D-Day for short.  The doors open at noon.  If you are one of the first 700 people through the door, you’ll be able to purchase up to six bottles of their limited run of Darkness.  If you miss out on that, there are three bands playing, Surly beer to drink and merchandise and or food to buy depending upon what moves you.

Fox ran a little something on the event this morning, you can see it here if you missed it.

And here is a little behind the scenes look at the hand dipping and labeling process, through the eyes of Chip Walton, that has been taking place this week at the brewery.

Come on out.  Seriously, you won’t want to miss it.

The fort

October 15th, 2008

The neighborhood kids have found something that really binds them together, fort making.  You can see the beginnings of it from Dr. A’s photo.  That was about four days ago and they have not stopped working on it since.  They just keep adding to it, making it bigger and better.

There is now a prison, several look out posts, a fencing log and individual storage facilities for guns (sticks).  KP prefers putting his in between the trees bark, I’ll get a picture soon, it’s pretty cool, kind of like a weird abstract work of art.

Today we went to the park mid morning and there was a new addition in the fort…an empty Bacardi bottle.

Looks like the teens like the fort just as much as the little kids do.
