Ummm…I’m a little nervous

First day of school, 2nd grade.

VBS

July 20th, 2007

ALL THREE of my children spent the past week from 9 am to 12 pm at Vacation Bible School.  This break from my wee ones has been fabulous and wonderful and a little taste of what this fall has in store for me with KP going to preschool two mornings a week.

After their “program” wrapped up we ate a picnic lunch with the group and headed home.

In the car I asked CT what his favorite part of the week was. His response…“the pizza”.  Then he went on to say, “I don’t get it, all week we have been looking for clues to the “Quest for the Truth” (that’s this years theme) and it’s THE BIBLE.  The bible is not that hard to find!”

Thank you NOT

April 18th, 2007

Of course I make my kids write thank you notes. Wouldn’t you? Who else is going to foster this very important skill? Who else will teach them to be thankful and appreciative of other people’s kindness?

So, of course I made CT write all his thank you notes for all the gifts he got for his seventh birthday. He worked long and hard on hand writing everyone their very own thank you card.

And now…I CAN’T FIND THEM! And no, they haven’t been mailed.

Do you make the kid struggle through the exercise all over again? Do you write them for him? What the hell does one do when you lose all his thank you notes?

Lucky Seven

CT my boy,

Every year on this, your very special day, I think of how our world changed when you entered our little family and made it three. There you suddenly were the little surprise we had been so eagerly awaiting. So small, so red, such little cries, so very dependent and given to us like a gift from above, but with NO manual.

You are no longer that utterly dependent baby or that toddler who doesn’t listen or understand or can’t express themselves. You have morphed out of being little and moved head strong into being a boy. And what a boy you are, filled with kindness, love, courage, strength and a serious case of the sillies.

May this seventh year of life be filled with happiness, adventure and of course…luck.

Happy Birthday CT!

I love you,

Mom

Artful conversation

February 24th, 2007

CT and PJ were sitting at the kitchen table this afternoon making little figures out of clay. As they sat and sculpted they also chatted and the following is what I overheard:

CT: PJ, why are you always so mean?

PJ: I was born mean.

No fucking respect

Monday morning the kids and I were eating breakfast at the kitchen table. Down walks Adam…clean, fresh, handsomely dressed and ready to start the day.

CT: Dad, why do you always dress like that when you go to work?

Adam: I have to dress up for my job and look professional.

CT: (looking at me from across the table) I want to be a mom so I don’t have to go to work.

Wondering why

January 11th, 2007

I still haven’t gotten the straight dope from him yet. I ask “why” often. There seems to be a reason but it never comes out right or straight or we get interrupted…again. Then I forget about it for awhile. And then I am quickly reminded once again while standing at the back door. I just can’t figure it out.

Why on earth does my kid wear the same pair of socks for a solid week?

Greedy kid quote of the season

Mom, I wish YOU celebrated Christmas and DAD celebrated Chanukah. That way, we could get presents for both!
