Off to school
This was yesterday.
CT had just rolled out of bed and wasn’t ready yet.
PJ is set and ready to roll. In fact, she ran onto the bus so fast that I had to go on after her to kiss her goodbye.
KP was all ready but had to wait another day for school to begin, but got to visit for an hour and hang out with his new class mates.
All in all, the day went pretty smoothly.
And today…KP headed off to his first day of ALL DAY Chinese Immersion Kindergarten (didn’t even want to stop for a photo-can you tell by the blur?).
With his big brother giving him ample instructions before leaving the door, his big sister taking his hand as they stepped onto the bus together and his wide anxious eyes waiting for all the new adventures to begin, I am sure this day too will be great.
Unless he goes insane because he has no idea what the teacher is talking about.
I’ll let you know if that happens.

So here we go…CT has moved on from soccer and baseball to try his hand at football.
After watching the first practice, I must admit, it is going to be an exciting sport to watch.
He’s fast and agile. He likes to tackle. He most likely at some point is going to get his bell rung.
But seriously, the kid hasn’t slept this well all summer. I mean, out like a light last night.
We walked to the car after practice. He lifted his helmet off his sweaty head to show his bright red face and glowing freckles and said, “THIS IS AWESOME! I’m doing it again next year!”

This morning around 7:00, the house was very still, everyone asleep but me. Then KP came walking down the steps, still stretching the sleep out of his body.
As the sunlight from the bathroom lit up half his little body I looked at him in his quiet state, in the quiet of the morning and a flood of emotion washed over me. How big his little body had gotten, how cute he was, how funny was his hair splayed in all directions, and than that crooked smile that turned into a shy “oh no you’re looking at me” look.
At that moment I fell in love with him all over again.

I have not been the only one in the house sucked in by the Twilight series. Since I started reading them, CT has been asking me about the cover art, story lines and characters. Needless to say, there has been a lot of talk in the house about vampires, sucking blood and werewolves.
Of course, all the while I am making sure my young brood understands that this is just a story and these things really don’t happen, nor do they exist.
This past weekend, while we were at the beach, I was reading the fourth book, Breaking Dawn. CT asked me to give him and update on what was going on (if you plan on reading this book and don’t want me to spoil it for you STOP READING NOW!)
CT: Mom, what’s going on in Breaking Dawn.
Me: Bella and Edward got married and now she’s pregnant with some sort of vampire creature.
CT: Or a werewolf?
Me: No it couldn’t be a werewolf.
CT: It could be a werewolf! Couldn’t it?
Me: No, she married the vampire. Do you remember that book we read about sperm and eggs and where they come from?
CT: Yeah.
Me: Ok…well, we have a vampire sperm and a human egg. There’s no werewolf involved here.
CT: Ohhhhhhhhh!

PJ: Owww, you just hit me in the nuts.
CT: PJ…you don’t have nuts, you have a berry.

Ohhh they can’t wait for this day to be done. Do you remember the excitement?
This one can’t wait for the end of the year paper fight on the bus.
This one is struggling with what to do for the end of the year talent show: singing, dancing, jokes. Who is to say. But she was dressed and ready to go by 6:45 sharp.
This one is ready for anything, as always.
Let summer officially begin…I’m thinking Gin and tonics.

I don’t know much about the Dad’s father, he died before I was born.
But the two things that I do know are these: he worked as a bellhop for most of his life at a very fancy hotel in Ohio and he always told my dad to make sure to check a woman’s teeth before he married her.

Dear CT,
This year, I find myself at a loss for words when it comes to writing your letter. I have sat down several times and can’t seem to wrap my head around what I want to say to you.
So I looked back.
Who is this child with the curly blond locks in that crib? This was not so long ago you know, just a turn of your mother’s head.
And suddenly you are on your way to preschool to find new friends and learn all about your colors, letters and how to be a friend.
And then I turned around again and you turned 4, loving knights and swords and castles.
And then I somehow caught you in a moment of quiet, sitting, watching and wondering.
THEN you became the oldest of three kids, two younger siblings always looking up to you and wanting your attention and love and admiration.
Some days you liked it and others…not so much.
We turned around again and your friends became a really important part of your world.
And you have bonded with great people and are beginning to find your way and navigate this crazy world.
I think I lack the words because sometimes “life” goes so fast. The year has whirled by and I turned around yet again and have found us back in April, you one year older, one year wiser, one year more mature.
The words I do have for you are this, I love you so with your freckles and your love of life, your gentleness and your complete absurdness, your abilities that give you confidence and your struggles that make you even stronger. I love watching you grow older, I cherish our precious time together.
How lucky we are to share this time with you.
Happy 9th Birthday my boy!
I love you.
Mom

I found this little dog in my dirty laundry bin.
I have no idea where it came from or whose it is.
My pinkie finger is there to show you just how small it is.
It is velvety soft.
It looks kinda mad, kinda mean, kinda nasty and certainly not the COME PLAY WITH ME kinda happy you’re going for as a kid.
This small thing is very disturbing to me.
I don’t like it one bit.
Who the hell would play with that?
The dog won’t even chew it to death.
I think it’s the eyes.

Marathon training has officially started for good, today. And what I mean by that is, today, although not necessarily the first day, kicked my butt. Moderate (which is a swift) pace for 7 miles with sprints at the end. Needless to say, I realized today just how out of shape I am AND that I need to head right on back to the Podiatrist.
I can’t even think about my Podiatrist anymore without thinking of a conversation I had with Jen the first time I went to see him. I got out of the office, picked up my phone and called Jen to give her the low down on the bunion and then I added that not only is he brilliant, he is HOT!
She said, well he’s your type. I’m all like…WHAT…I have a type? What do you mean? I’ve been with the same guy for half my life. I don’t have a type anymore.
She continued on, yeah he doesn’t really do it for me. You know, he looks just like Adam will in 10 years.
And damn if she isn’t right…my husband is sooo HOT!
