Resolutions
I usually don’t do New Year’s resolutions, I’m not a believer in them. If I don’t stick to them, that just makes me a failure at my own game, why would I do that? Everyone knows I like to win, so setting myself up for failure is plain’ol silly.
Seeing that I have found myself sluggish, unmotivated and angry at the end of 08, I went hole (or whole) hog into resolution crazytown.
My 09 resolution list:
- Only drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning (this one is going well)
- No drive through coffee in the afternoon-good for the environment and myself (this too is going well so far, but just give it time)
- Lift weights 3 times a week (I can’t believe this one is even on my list, I have been lifting since I was in college, even while pregnant and somehow it fell off the to do list in the past year, what the hell)
- Go to Yoga class once a week (this is to help me find my calm center…wherever that is and NO I have not gone this week)
- Be less angry (Yoga was suppose to help me with this, deep breathing too, but there are just moments where I find myself in a tail spin, gritting my teeth until my jaw hurts and wondering how to keep four kids that are spread out like a paint splatter and a dog all together while skating at the park in -7 below windchill with my toes and fingers tingling with pain from the cold, can you feel the anger?)
- Only drink on the weekends (I made it Monday night, there is nothing more to say)
- To JUDGE (this seems to be the only resolution that is really working for me, it even has its own sound affect when I do judge something, that of course comes after me saying very loudly JUDGEMENT 09!
So I am going to say this, I HATE resolutions, people who do resolutions are idiots (JUDGEMENT 09!), they never work, you always fail…hold on, I need to get my fourth cup of coffee.
How is that for an angry, over caffeinated, hateful, judgmental morning? Off to the drive through Starbucks for utter success today, oh and I better put out my wine glass for tonight.

You spelled “whole” wrong, as in “whole hog”. Unless a “hole hog” is a porcine animal I have never seen, like a liger or a unicorn or a or a harpie. (How’s that jaw feeling now?)
I don’t have any answers but I have some tips to share that seem to be working for me:
More yoga. And more different kinds of yoga.
Surround yourself with more dogs. Come to my house on Thursdays and Fridays if you don’t want to do that at your house.
Get some candles that smell nice to you. Light them and sit near them. at all times.
Ask your doctor what a maximum dose of Zoloft (or equivalent) is based on your metabolism and take it.
Start drinking earlier in the day. Like before lunch.
HTH 🙂
PS Watch The Dog Whisperer. I’m not sure about the dog stuff but he has a calming effect on me.
I just can’t believe you’ve decided to have four children in 09. Or was that one of mine you were counting? 🙂
