Kid’s questions

October 30th, 2008

As I was folding laundry this morning KP said, “How does dad have BIG toots and holes in his underwear?”

Nathan’s Book

October 28th, 2008

There are moments in time where you look at your friends and their abilities and their work and think…Wow, seriously?  That’s amazing!  And then you think how lucky you are to know them and share time with them and even have the ability to share the simplest of life pleasures with them.

This is one of those moments.

Nathan, congratulations, we can’t wait to hear about your conversation with Oprah.

PJ ran away today.

I will take 50% of the blame.

I asked her to come back to the bus stop to talk something over with a friend she had a fight with.

She WOULD NOT!

So she got mad at me and said she was not going to live in our house anymore (I know…seriously big jump).

I said, “fine…good luck!” and walked away.

She said she was going over to Dr. B’s house.

I said, “call me when you get there.”

And she fucking did.

Once I got there (to make sure she was safe and sound, not raped, molested, picked up by the police or eaten by a wolf since she walked through the forest to get there) we sat down on the step to straighten things out.

I told her how much I loved her and that it made me sad that she just left and maybe we could start out by talking about what happened on the bus.

She told me about the disagreement with her friend and then she told me she wanted Dr. B to adopt her and that she wants to live with their family instead.

Why not drink during your free time

October 22nd, 2008

I’ve recently had the opportunity to help Surly Brewing Company throw their first Annual SurlyFest back in September.  It was so much fun I couldn’t help but go back for more.  Ok, the honest truth is that Omar (the owner) said I could come back as long as I kept the mouthing off to a minimum.

Regardless of all that, if you have some free time this Saturday stop on by the brewery for Darkness Day or D-Day for short.  The doors open at noon.  If you are one of the first 700 people through the door, you’ll be able to purchase up to six bottles of their limited run of Darkness.  If you miss out on that, there are three bands playing, Surly beer to drink and merchandise and or food to buy depending upon what moves you.

Fox ran a little something on the event this morning, you can see it here if you missed it.

And here is a little behind the scenes look at the hand dipping and labeling process, through the eyes of Chip Walton, that has been taking place this week at the brewery.

Come on out.  Seriously, you won’t want to miss it.

Congratulations Nick & Lynn!

The fort

October 15th, 2008

The neighborhood kids have found something that really binds them together, fort making.  You can see the beginnings of it from Dr. A’s photo.  That was about four days ago and they have not stopped working on it since.  They just keep adding to it, making it bigger and better.

There is now a prison, several look out posts, a fencing log and individual storage facilities for guns (sticks).  KP prefers putting his in between the trees bark, I’ll get a picture soon, it’s pretty cool, kind of like a weird abstract work of art.

Today we went to the park mid morning and there was a new addition in the fort…an empty Bacardi bottle.

Looks like the teens like the fort just as much as the little kids do.

Night time prayers

October 9th, 2008

After our typical prayer of “Now I lay me down to sleep…” the kids ramble on praying for friends, family, those they know and those people they don’t know depending on the kid.

Tonight, PJ’s prayer went like this,

“I pray for those people I know, and those people I don’t know who are sick and for Nana and Papa and Grandma and especially pray for Grandpa, whose bones don’t feel so good these days and whose hair might fall out and that’s why we gave him a trim.  Amen.”

Today’s random thoughts of craziness

October 8th, 2008

I think a bug shit on my nose today.

I am on my fourth pair of new running shoes in two weeks.  I have discovered the art of taking back shoes I have run outside in.

PJ was home with strep throat today.

I think KP might have ass strep…he is just the kinda kid that gets ass strep.

I’ve decided I have taken on too much.  If I could give one thing away, it would be teaching SUNDAY SCHOOL.  Lord knows I should not be doing it anyway and I’m not really a Sunday person.

I have heard KP tell me he is going to cut me with a sharp knife if he doesn’t get his way.  He is just the kinda kid that would cut someone with a sharp knife.

Thinking joining facebook was just another thing to eat away at my time.

How are all those people I haven’t seen in 21 years all there waiting for me to ask them to be my friends all over again?  Are they really my friends anyway?

I think it’s time to be done for the night.

Have you seen Mad Men?  Oh lord…we just started season one and can’t stop.  It makes you want to drink scotch, smoke and absolutely not be a woman in the early 60’s.

How bad is it that I was too lazy to actually clean out the coffee grounds in the coffee machine?  The left overs, under the fresh stuff, might make for a really nice blend tomorrow at 5:00.

OK, now I’m done for the night.
